Imagine a place where individuality meets togetherness, and where stylish apartments seamlessly blend with vibrant social spaces. This isn't just a dream; it's the cornerstone of Vertika's approach to Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). At Vertika, we're not just building next-generation properties; we're building Captivating Communities – our tagline for a reason.

The Merrylands open day, held on the 8th of May, was a testament to this vision. Over 40 members of the NDIS community came together to celebrate the unveiling of this stunning new SDA development.

The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as friendly conversations flowed and smiles filled the spacious rooms and terraces. Guests weren't just touring apartments; they were envisioning themselves living in this inspiring environment. It was a day filled with excitement, possibility, and the promise of a future brimming with community spirit.

A Fusion of Style and Functionality

Functionality doesn't have to come at the expense of aesthetics. Vertika understands this, and it shows in the beautiful and functional living spaces we have created in Merrylands.

Each of the showroom apartments boasts its own unique decor, promoting a sense of individuality and giving future residents the sense of a unique space that could become theirs and theirs only.

Greg Barry, the senior consultant and founder of SDA Services, enthuses that the Merrylands design has a “bespoke feel” that will meet the “individual needs and preferences of different residents”. “In my experience SDA participants want to regard their accommodation as their forever home. It’s a design demand that Vertika has responded to impressively – the built form really is terrific”, Greg says.

For all the tech enthusiasts, the apartments also encompass a host of modifications designed to enhance daily life. Automated lighting systems respond to movement, and large tempered glass doors between bedrooms and bathrooms glided open at the touch of a button.

For anybody with specific mobility needs, cleverly designed features like customisable bathroom fixtures and adjustable counters and cooker tops ensure ease of living and maximum independence.

Guests immersed themselves in the stylish and cutting-edge apartments with interactive tours guided by the Vertika team.

Family-First Design

The next-generation Merrylands property isn't just about individual apartments; it's about fostering a strong sense of togetherness, especially for families. Unlike traditional SDA options, Vertika offers two and three-bedroom apartments, a game-changer for families with disabilities.

For Jacob, who lives with a disability, finding an SDA home that accommodates a family has proven to be an uphill struggle. Jacob says, "Families are often forced to live apart due to a lack of suitable housing options. This property offers a place where whole families with disabilities can truly call home, and that's something very special."

Movie nights in spacious living rooms, or shared meals in accessible kitchens. Vertika's design makes these moments of connection possible by offering functional yet comfortable shared spaces that allow people to come together.

As the sun peeked through the clouds, casting a warm glow on the terraces and gardens, guests could imagine family gatherings against a breathtaking cityscape view, or playing games in the garden with extended family. These large and inviting outdoor areas provide a platform for families to connect with other residents, promoting a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the walls of the building itself.

The open day attracted a vibrant mix of SDA participants, prospective residents, NDIS professionals, and local community members.

A Community in the Making

At Vertika, we believe that choosing the right SDA property can offer much more than just a place to live. It can be a catalyst for connection, a springboard for personal growth, and the heart of a thriving community.

This belief guided the construction at every stage, with the architect taking on the design project due to a heartfelt urge to “give back to the community”.

The same belief is apparent in every design detail; wide doorways, ramps, and accessible bathrooms ensure everyone can participate fully in the vibrant Merrylands experience. It’s a space where families, individual residents and support professionals can truly live, grow, and connect – together.

Encapsulating this ethos on the day, Dylan, a talented DJ and United for Care SIL participant who travelled all the way from Wollongong, took to the stage. His DJ set kept the energy high, reminding everyone that the heart of any community lies in its people.

Members of the NDIS community gathered under the sun and listened to inspirational speeches from SDA participant, Jacob, and SDA Services founder, Greg.

A Labour of Love

Asked what excited him most about the open day, Greg claimed “It’s the overarching culture of Vertika – their passion and enthusiasm for delivering a project that will have life-changing effects for so many people.”

Michelle Lang, the General Manager for Vertika, perfectly embodies this passion and enthusiasm. Michelle says “The Merrylands property means we’re able to welcome families in, which makes it a unique offering.”

If you ask anyone who attended the Merrylands open day, they’ll tell you the property is flawless. But Michelle says, “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, but we won’t stop here. We're always looking at ways to expand on what we’re able to offer.”

This level of commitment bodes well for the next project. For Michelle and the whole Vertika team, building captivating communities, just like the one taking shape in Merrylands, really is a labour of love.
